Vík Adventure – Zipline & Paragliding

About this experience

Summer season: May – Sept

Allow 3,5 – 4 hours for this combo experience. Depending on the size and shape of the group along with weather conditions.

All safety equipment, ride to the starting point from the meeting point, certificated guided hike, three ziplines and a tandem paragliding flight.

You will need

Hiking shoes and warm, windproof clothes – dress according to weather. Gloves and a thin hat to fit under your helmet If you have long hair it’s recommended to braid it or tie it in a low bun.

Meeting Point

Nordur-Vik Hostel, Suðurvíkurvegur 5, Vík í Mýrdal, South Iceland (check map). Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your booking time.

Sometimes we need to change departure times slightly due to the weather. Please check your email before your booked time and leave us a phone number so we can call or text you in case we have to contact you with changes in schedule.

We meet up on location at Norður-Vík hostel. If you arrive early feel free to use the restroom facilities, make the use of Wi-Fi and sip on a cup of tea or coffee before our guides arrive to meet you. There will be short weather assessment upon arrival and if everything looks promising you’ll jump in our 4x4 and drive up to the nearest mountain for the paragliding take-off. On top, we’ll have a safety briefing and you will get instructions regarding the flight. This is a tandem instructional flight so don’t worry, we won’t send you off into the unknown, you’ll be attached to your instructor at all times.
The flying time itself depends greatly on the weather, it can last up to 30 minutes. After landing, most likely on the Black Sand Beach we drive back to our meeting-point, get refreshed and head onto our Zipline Adventure.

Again you will be briefed on safety protocols, get dressed up in a harness and helmet and drive to the zipline start. We start by hiking to the first of 3 ziplines. We will give you detailed safety instructions and make sure you are comfortable with what to do during the experience so you will enjoy our ziplines to the fullest and stay safe. Once you’re ready then you wait your turn and next thing you know, you are zipping above the canyon, heart pumping with excitement. Then we take a short hike through amazing rock formation of Grafargil (Grave Canyon) to the next activity, named Leap of Faith. Lastly, the second zip-line that we call Little Rush, it will take you over a stunning waterfall, named Hundafoss. Last but not least we have a short hike back to our base if the weather permits.

Dress according to weather, Iceland can often get cold and wet so wind and rainproof clothes are usually a good idea.

Tours operate rain or shine. If we do cancel, we’ll make every effort to contact you to reschedule or refund the tour.

Your TFI’s

It’s always good to know what to expect so we’ll give you a little preview of your Tandem Flight instructors. It’s highly likely one of them or both will accompany you on the ziplines as well.

Þráinn started paragliding in summer of 2013 and is so lucky to have these beautiful mountains all around him, here, in the little town of Vík, so he could spend every flyable breeze in the air. If he’s not flying tandems, you’ll spot him on his solo testing out the latest acrobatic move he’s mastering. During winter Þráinn likes to go to Spain and spread his wings for some time but he always ends up in Vík again. His local knowledge of the area is admirable so if you get the change to have him as your pilot, ask away, he knows things.

Sammi started paragliding during the long summer days of Iceland in 2009 and was hooked from the start. Since then he has travelled the world with his paraglider finally settling on dividing his flying time between Vík in summer and Cape Town during the other summer. You will probably never catch this guy without a smile on his face and he’s frequently named The Happy Hippo.

Beautiful experience above the stunning scenery along the South Coast of Iceland. The wind direction rules where the location of your flight will take place.

Hiking boots

Remamber your hiking boots! You will be travelling in Iceland, our terrain is mostly untouched and we would like to keep it that way. That’s why we don’t make huge walking paths in the landscape but follow narrow and uneven sheep trails along our trails. Hiking boots help you when the route is wet and slippery and support your ankles if you are unused to walking on uneven surface.

  •   Went with my boyfriend for his birthday. Had an amazing time! Beautiful landscape, nice easy walk between the lines, the guides were very entertaining with great stories of the surrounding. Felt very safe all the time and had a blast! Highly recommend this.
